Sandstone Patios
Sandstone brings natural variation and a softer, traditional feel that sits comfortably in older gardens. Each slab differs slightly in tone and texture, which is part of the surface's charm.
Sawn or riven
Sawn sandstone gives a flatter, more formal look; riven keeps a textured, time-worn character. Colour families run from golden fawn to silver-grey, and curved edges or steps can be cut to suit the garden.
How it's laid
A full mortar bed, correct falls and pointed joints are the traditional method — it takes longer than dry-laid approaches but suits the material and lasts well when done properly.
What shapes a proposal
Every project is different, so anything you'd receive would be written after looking at your space. These are the factors that usually shape the options:
- Sawn versus riven finish and colour family
- Patio size, steps and curved edges
- Condition of the ground and existing levels
- Junctions with walls, lawns and borders
